Foodies: Exploring District Eats
Live Feed
These icons are used in search results and on restaurant/ bar profiles to show what information is available. If you forget what one stands for, roll over it with your mouse. If you click on one it will take you directly to that portion of the profile. They stand for (in order): Comments, Information, Photos, Video.
Reviews
At the bottom of each restaurant/ bar profile and on the neighborhood page is a comment box. Registered users can leave their thoughts/ comments or reviews about that particular place. Your reviews are made public for everyone to see. The more reviews you write, the higher your ranking (see help page for details).
Rating
At the top of each restaurant/ bar profile is 5 stars above two stripes. Simply click the number of stars you wish to rate, 1/2 star being "Hated it!", 5 stars being "Loved it!" After voting the stars will reflect the updated average. Below it shows the number of ratings being averaged.
Recommendations
When you find a restaurant/ bar that you love, you can recommend it to one of your subscribers or someone you are subscribed to. Likewise, you may also receive recommendations from other users on the site.
Bookmarks
Say you are browsing through restaurants/ bars and find a place you want to try, however you aren't in the mood for it at that moment. Bookmark it. It will be added to the "Bookmarks" section in your profile so you don't forget to try it.
Subscriptions
Are used for following people you know, or people who interest you on the site. For example, you are reading about a new restaurant you think sounds good. One reviewer writes that you should try their burger because its the best in the District. You go, and agree, it is the best burger. You may want to subscribe so you know other reviews they write or so you can message them a thank you. Likewise, someone may find your review helpful and subscribe to you!
Profile Icons
The Feed shows your recent activity on the site, as well as that of your subscriptions. To stop seeing someones activity in your feed simply unsubscribe to them.
Messaging
The messaging system can be used much like email to send messages to other users on District Eats. You will be sent an email notification when you receive a new message. To disable this feature, go to "My profile" then "Settings."
